I had once been a small child , with an imagination
infinitely limited to the place I lived in. We lived in Dilkusha colony, which
was unique as it was on the eastern outskirts of lucknow, away from the usual
hustle and bustle of the city. Lucknow city was on one side of the river Gomti
and our colony was near the Lucknow Cantonment, which happened to be on the
other side.
“You become the place you live in” –Rocky Balboa.
A similar thing had happened to me. Since I had grown up in
a place like Dilkusha, my personality has imbibed a lot from the place. The more
I grow up, I realize and feel the importance of understanding oneself.
A straight road connected my colony to my school, and it ran
parallel to the river Gomti. Every morning I strolled along the dam to the
school. It was such a site to see the sun rising beyond the horizon and
reflecting it’s beauty across the Gomti which meandered across the lush green
plains. Life had never been so simple. Coming back to home by noon, Going to
the coaching, watching cartoon network, going off to play in the evening,
thinking about the girls in the coaching before sleeping….maaan that was life!!
Dilkusha had a dark side too. A highly ambitious neighborhood,
determined to be very successful in life, no respect for mediocracy. but why
did such a neighborhood have to affect a child like me the way it did? Or is it
me running away from reality ,at the end of the day when I look back, such a
place is far pleasant than going into a cancer hospital to admit your own dad. Or
not be there , when your family needs you the most. These were some scenarios
which I faced recently.
I visited dilkusha after a long time yesterday. I had been
to a lot of places and somehow had missed being a small boy with an imagination
infinitely limited to the place I once lived in. I missed the best days of my life,
my childhood.
