Is mediocrity equivalent to a valley amidst the high
mountains? Or is it just that we fail to identify the beauty of the same, for
it is the valley where the flowers blossom.
The society around is full of bright eyed people so eager to
be the next super achiever, this is very specific to careers. We want to have a
super alumni tag (which happens to be the new caste system) ,respect in the
society would be given only to those who are from top institutes , companies or
other facets of society. Where does a common man go? The common man is at guilt
to. For he too has embraced the caste system and wants to be the achiever in
his club. The entire hierarchy has been plagued with the same.
Few years ago, Amir Khan captured the essence of what I’m
trying to write down. In his movie the 3-idiots. Was he truly proposing mediocrity
or he was urging people to follow their dreams and not try to please the
society.
Well , I’m not the one to follow my dreams. I like to dream
when I’m asleep. I’m an average Joe , who wants to earn well enough to maintain
a particular lifestyle. Even if it would mean doing a Job as boring as being in
IT. People would rate it as a majdoor
job. Not the kind an MBA from a top B-School would do. I, once had a perception
and craving for being in a top consulting firm ,Jabbering all the gyan, in english
to earn a living, I often felt motivated enough to write my GMAT,aim for a top
B-school, guess what, I’m too lazy to spend my weekends on learning English grammar
and practising high school mathematics. I believe life is more than, flashing
your alumni status. It’s about how human you are, to yourself and everything
that surrounds you. I feel its more important to connect to the energy around
you, to be able to look into a person’s eye and read his mind. It’s more
important to understand the way the nature works. To absorb its ways, to be a
part of it.
I’d been on a Jungle safari recently. I saw a family of deer
crossing the river. The male, also the head of the family cautiously leading
his family across the river. I watched them in awe, aware of the fact that
there were predators all around, and inevitably one of them would be hunted
down. It was a moment of truth for me, here we had a family, battling for survival
in the jungle and here I was, a visitor from a civilized world, coming to their
survival arena to find peace.
We have a luxury to do so many things in life, travel the
world, choose a lifestyle, enjoy the weekend. Be at peace, with oneself and
with the world.Let's not torment ourselves with un-necessary ambitiousness. Let's Live and let Live.
